I'm Jim Salyer of Gem Source on Southland Drive in Lexington. We founded this company with a focus on fine quality engagement rings and anniversary gifts of all varieties, and with a focus on quality and education. Our store is located at 368 Southland Drive in Lexington.

I truly enjoy doing what I love and working alongside my wife, Gerry, and our two sons, Ian and Lucas. Our store specializes in GIA certified diamonds, as well sapphire, emerald, ruby, pearls—all varieties of gemstones. We also offer on-site appraisal service, as well as repairs. We are also happy to work with older jewelry and redesigning estate jewelry, as well as refurbishing estate jewelry. We accept consignments of ancient jewelry sometimes, and sometimes just used jewelry.

My fiancé and I cannot recommend this company enough! We both walked into the ring and diamond shopping realm completely uneducated. After going to a couple places around town we were luckily referred to Gem Source by a family member. Jim took the time out of his day to sit down with us and actually educate us about diamonds and their quality/cut on multiple occasions, until we were finally able to make our minds up. Gerry and Jim are two very knowledgeable individuals and provide an unmatched level of customer service. Incredible experience working with all of the Salyer family in one way or another throughout the process of finding the perfect ring for my fiancee. They are amazing people that I've known for 25+ years. I did not hestite at all to make the drive down from Lousiville to Lexington to work with honest people that cared as much about the final outcome as I did. I can not recommend this place enough! My mom gave me an old ring of hers that didn’t have stones. I talked to Luke and he took care of me! He was very informative and helped me look at many stones of different colors and he told me what was best for rings. We decided on blue sapphires. They were the best looking sapphires I’ve ever seen and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommend, will be coming back for sure. Thank you Luke and Geri!

Had the best experience here when looking for engagement and bands set! We found a set we loved here but wanted some changes to type of stone and metal. Jim got our sizes and quickly worked up the details in their software to get it exactly how we wanted them. He explained the whole process in detail. When we received the finished products, I was stunned. They are perfect! The store is lovely as well, and the whole Salyer family is wonderful. I strongly recommend Gem Source.
The owners created a gorgeous custom necklace with a diamond from an heirloom. They designed earrings to match for a special occasion. Pleasant owners. Helpful, not pushy. Informative and patient. I will definitely be a returning customer!
Jim was excellent to work with. My fiance and I did not know too much about diamonds/rings and Jim spent over an hour with us going over the basics, and then showing us examples of different diamonds. We went to other jewelry stores and we did not have nearly as good of an experience. Jim never rushed us, pressured us to buy anything, and he allowed us to ask questions over the course of 2-3 visits. He even showed us how he could incorporate some family diamonds into a ring. Jim also took time to answer my questions about other jewelry (namely watches) and educated us about them as well. After our purchase they followed up and made sure that we had all of our paperwork (appraisal, invoice, and GIA paperwork). They are very easy to talk to. We will not go to another jeweler. I highly recommend Gem Source for their great prices and outstanding customer service.
They know nothing about real gemology and are true rip off artists they will try and steal from you. Never do business with them if you are a serious collector. And if you do have your product tested by a GIA credible gemologist.
Have used them twice to fix necklaces and they have always been amazing. Wonderful service & extremely kind. I recommend them highly!
I love this store. Their jewelry is absolutely lovely. Jim creates jewelry you’d love to own.I have both purchased new items and had others repaired at Gem Source. They always have everything ready when promised and completed correctly. The owners are very friendly, helpful, and courteous.

Gem source was able to repair and resize my wedding set on site in less than 48 hours. The bands were misshapen from years of wear and the stone was becoming loose on my engagement ring. When I picked my rings up they looked brand new. Great, friendly and fast service!
If you are looking for one of a kind, new or upgrade i have no doubt Jim at Gem Source can make it happen. Jim did a wonderful job finding the perfect diamond to upgrade my current wedding rings. He surpassed my expectations on size, quality, value and price. I let him know what I was looking for and he showed me several to choose from. In the end I chose a beautiful diamond with a small flaw on the outer edge that he covered with a prong when it was set. Gem Source Inc. is one of those companies where the saying "Do NOT judge a book by its cover" comes into play. When you first walk in, the Jewelry shop is a bit small and seems like it wouldn't have much to offer. However, it has anything and everything you could ever imagine at amazing prices!To give you a little bit of a background about myself, I am a Mechanical Engineer who dove deep into every precise detail about rings, how they are made, details about diamonds, what makes the perfect diamond, and so much more. I would almost say that I drove so deep into my understanding of diamonds that I was a very difficult customer to please.During my search on my large list of criteria for a set of rings, I went to some of the top Jewelry stores in the state of Kentucky (Based on Google Reviews). I went to Shane Co, Genesis Diamonds, Davis Jewelers, etc..Shane Co had some nice rings but it felt like I was at a car dealer ship being pushed to buy a car; and their prices were expensive. Davis Jeweler had some nice rings but they didn't have the type of ring I was searching for and was expensive. Genesis Diamond had nothing I was looking for and the Owner of the store was one of the worst human-beings I have ever met.When I came to Gem Source Inc, it didn't have as many reviews as the others however, it was HIGHLY underrated. Gem Source Inc. had magnificent customer service. Jim Salyer and his family was such a bliss to work with even with me being such a hard customer to please!Gem Source Inc offer something that every Jeweler that I went to couldn't. Gem Source Inc was able to make the EXACT ring that I wanted and match the EXACT diamond that I wanted at such a low price! The ring was all custom designed by Gem Source Inc. and the price that I paid was less than a non-custom ring that looked semi-similar to what you might want.So why choose Gem Source Inc. out of all the other companies out there? Got my fiancee's ring here a few months back and they were great. Super helpful and reasonably priced.
I wish I had known about the services offered at Gem years ago. I had been taking my diamond jewelry twice a year to the store where originally purchased for inspection and repairs. When prongs needed to be re-tipped I had to leave my ring for weeks to be "sent out" somewhere. My ring came back with crooked prongs and never looked quite right. Last fall I finally googled to find a local jeweler. Gem Source showed up with excellent reviews for repair, restoration, and creating new unique pieces of jewelry. Jim Salyer is the jeweler and owner, along with his wife Gerry. Jim restored my diamond marquis to the way it looked in 1979 in the store window. Beautiful.Gem is not like a chain store with a large inventory of look alike pieces.Jim Salyer and his wife Gerry are owners of this long established business. On one of my visits I discovered a tray of gem stones. I was drawn to an opal that reminded me of a special ring I had that was stolen. Jim told me he could recreate that ring for me. He found two beautiful opals from Australia. Jim took my sketch and created several designs for me to consider. He emailed videos to me and patiently made changes. The ring I received took my breath away. I am so happy with the result. I highly recommend Gem to anyone wanting quality jewelry.
